Motherhood

Motherhood

Census Bureau reports (2016) that number of children living with a single mother in the US is at 23 percent. Most mothers work yet single mothers income is well below the married mothers income. The poverty rate for single mother families in 2016 was 35.6%. Amongst many hardships single mothers have to deal with many things that are normally taken for granted from food insecurity to limited access to healthcare to limited access to child care. For example a single mother living in New York with an infant aged 0-3 would have to pay more then half of her income for day care at the center. Nationally single mothers spend more then half of their I income on living expenses and a third on child care, leaving them less money for the expenses like education. (singlemotherguide.com)
The lonely figure is to pay tribute to all mothers and a single mother in particular. Child bearingmand child rearing take a toll on the most productive years of female life, wether she has a partner or not. Motherhood brings a lot of joy and happiness yet it is a hard job that sometimes leaves a hole which otherwise would've been filled with something else - career, travel, hobbies.
It leaves very little time for self-discovery and enlightenment. Yet, what would a mother be
without a child? Without the hole in the middle this figure is nothing but a bent board
contemplating it’s navel.
