The Birds

Canary in a mine is a slightly forgotten yet powerful symbol of invisible danger, detected by the helpless creature that is saving humans by dying first. This imposed sacrifice was taken for granted by generations, depriving the bird of a choice and removing it’s chance of salvation by keeping it caged in a dangerous environment.
Current situation with the climate change is putting all of the birds, and other living beings in a symbolic cage without giving anyone an opportunity to escape.
“The Birds” is a family of small sculptures, three birds, a nest and an egg. The mother, father and a ruffle-feathered teenager bird are all wearing the gas masks as to remind us of the dangerous environment they are currently in. The future of an unborn bird seems rather perilous as theres no tiny gas mask in sight.
